Where you stay…..
Our camping field is bordered by the very pretty iron mill stream on the northern side and ancient broadleaf woodland to the east and south. It has basic amenities with a double compost loo and fresh drinking water filled from the well at the mill.
The stream is easily accessible with plenty of stony beaches for wild self cleansing and for collecting water for washing up. Please note that you can only use totally natural products near the waterways, and should not use any products when in the stream.
There is a central fire pit and campers are also welcome to have their own small well tended fires. We ask that you try to have fires in previous burn spots as much as possible .
You can buy seasoned firewood from us for your own fires or to use at the central fire. (please don't take wood from the woods)
We only offer a very limited number of camping spots at any time to preserve the tranquility for everyone.
If you are looking for your own secluded wilder spot we can direct you to some suitable camps further down stream or deeper into the woods.
We have a wild, wonderful and varied 41 acres so hopefully you can find what you are looking for here!
If you are a group of friends or family looking for a bit more of a private gathering we can cater for up to five tents extra at The Yurt. We recommend hiring the yurt space between the group. This would give you the yurt, which sleeps four and has its own solar power and fridge in addition to your own private hilltop area, with fire pit, toilet, water source and parking area. You can also book our entire campsite for groups of upto 30 people (please contact us).
Other points…….
There is parking for cars at the entrance of the field. There is a small hand pulled cart that you are welcome to use to help you carry your belongings to your camp.
We allow live-in vehicles and camper vans (for a small additional fee) to come and camp here too. But please note the lanes down to the mill are wriggly and small so it is not suitable for very large vehicles.
We are sorry but we are not set up for touring caravans and we have no facilities for black or grey water disposal.
We have to keep this land beautiful and unspoilt. If you come wild camping with us we ask that you take away everything you bring with you, this includes your recycling and rubbish.
We are surrounded by working farms with sheep in neighbouring fields. Friendly dogs with responsible owners are welcome, but you must ensure they are kept under control at all times. Please also make sure that you always clear up after your pet.
We welcome children and adults alike, and you are all very welcome to play on our playground ! But please check it out for yourselves, it is a private play area and we take no responsibility for any accidents.
There is a lot of wildlife here, and a lot of deer; which unfortunately means ticks. We recommend checking yourself daily during your stay.
